Gmail has announced a significant update in Gmail’s search feature on 19th of February, 2020 to simplify the task of searching a particular email. This new feature to filter the search categories is known as “Search Chips”.
Though Google is considered to be the best search engine and has its supremacy in search-specific algorithms, the search option of Gmail has often dismayed its users. Finding a specific email in Gmail has always been a task. Before February 2020, the users had to manually enter all search filters or go via the advance search procedure. Only a small percentage of the users were aware of these options and even a smaller percentage utilized them. The upgraded version of Gmail will have this new filter known as “Search Chips” directly below the search bar to easily click and search.
The initial version of Gmail came with search filters like sender/ receiver’s name, subject, included words, time frame, if the mail has an attachment or not, and others. With the new search filter, on searching a particular keyword the user will find filter buttons below the search bar. The filter option includes: “From, Exclude chats, Has attachment, Any time, Exclude calendar updates, etc.” The user can even further filter the search by selecting the type of attachments- Text/ PDF/ Image/ Spreadsheet/ others. Using a combination of these chips, the users can narrow down their search process and find an email in a minute.
The G Suite users are to be the first one to receive this upgraded advanced search version. They have already started receiving it and once the G Suite lot is done with, all other Gmail users will start receiving the updated version. Nothing concrete has been stated yet regarding the Gmail mobile application update.
